Giants fire Jason Garrett: Here’s how Twitter reacted

The New York Giants have finally decided to pull the plug, officially relieving offensive coordinator Jason Garrett of his duties on Tuesday.

The move comes after head coach Joe Judge expressed a blunt disappointment in the team’s offense following a 30-10 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. It also comes after reports of growing frustration in the locker-room.

With only seven remaining this season, it won’t be enough to save the Giants but it may provide opportunities for players like quarterback Daniel Jones to prove themselves.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Garrett’s termination:

Giants are going from Jason Garrett to Freddie Kitchens at offensive coordinator

— Cleveland Talk (@CLEsportsTalk) November 23, 2021

True story: Lafayette College fired John Garrett earlier today.

He is Jason Garrett’s brother.

— Zack Rosenblatt (@ZackBlatt) November 23, 2021

One thing for certain, Judge used his lifeline in letting Garrett go. If the offense doesn’t improve it’s not going to bode well. For comparison- when Fassel took over play calling in 2002 after Week 7, NYG scoring went from 12.7 ppg to 26.9 ppg. Will Kitchens move the needle?

— BigBlueVCR (@BigBlueVCR) November 23, 2021

Bye bye Garrett

— The Entertainah (@DaEntertainah85) November 23, 2021

I’ll say this too—the Maras are very close with Jason Garrett. This move couldn’t have been on them. And so pulling the trigger on it should put everyone else in the Giants building on notice.

The Giants firing Jason Garrett is like an entire mall is on fire but they focused the hose on the Auntie Anne’s pretzel shop.

Aunt Anne’s is delicious . Don’t compare the two. Garrett is that kiosk In the mall that sells useless paid program items . #giants https://t.co/huWxnhJO48

I know the Garrett firing came way too late for many, but I still have a hard time believing that Judge didn’t want this earlier, maybe even after last year. NOBODY could justify keeping Garrett after last night.

I never like to see anyone lose their job. But, after last night’s game, I’m fairly certain Jason Garrett is still being paid by the Cowboys. #NYG

So… the Giants hired Jason Garrett as OC and then were disappointed when the realized they had Jason Garrett as OC?

That about sum it up?

— Whoever I Am (@ThatRodneyGuy) November 23, 2021

The second I saw a Giants play where the pocket collapsed on Jones and 3 receivers were colliding in the same spot last night, I knew either Garrett or Gettleman or both were gonna be fired. I guess it’s all on Garrett https://t.co/ZBKeIeliYr

Seems fitting the last TD of the Jason Garrett era in NY went to an offensive lineman and his last series ended in two short pass attempts and a turnover on downs after two sacks.

This should have happened the moment they hired Jason Garrett. https://t.co/ktIMzDInKs

It only took 26 weeks for the @Giants to figure out the trolling done by the @dallascowboys with Jason Garrett. pic.twitter.com/1bBUM2PmYN

— Todd Byers (@todd_byers) November 23, 2021

With the decision to fire Jason Garrett, the #Giants are essentially admitting they were wrong in thinking system continuity was most important (Gettleman said Daniel Jones not having to learn a new system was key in retaining Garrett).
NO ONE saw this coming, right?

JG is a friend, but this was a necessary move from the Giants.
Assuming Kitchens gets the interim call, and don’t know if he is the answer, but something had to change.

Yes I was talking to ALL but I was directing this to the COWBOY. pic.twitter.com/ifoSgoCzdr
